Everything You Need to Know: Linen

So, let’s take some time and talk about one of our favorite materials, linen. Linen is made from the flax plant and is a modern super textile with an ancient history. Follow these few steps and learn everything about it – for example why it's more sustainable than cotton.

Absorbent and fast drying
Linen is very absorbent and dries quickly. It always feels cool to the touch. That’s why it’s ideal to wear linen clothes in warm weather. Dishcloths made of linen is also a more sustainable alternative to disposable ones.

A material with a history
As a matter of fact, Linen is one of the oldest fabrics in the world: some discoveries are dated to 8000 BC. Did you know Egyptian mummies were actually wrapped in linen?

Sustainable
The flax plant only needs a small amount of water and thrives in environments where food doesn’t grow well. That is why growing flax plants is much more sustainable than growing cotton.

Easy Care
Linen is naturally dirt- and stain repellant. Your linen clothes will be clean even when washing in low temperatures. It’s also resistant to moth and fur beetles.

Ages in Style
The more you wash linen, the softer it will become. Unlike many other textiles, it doesn’t attract lint and pills.

We hope you learned some new stuff! And while we’re at it, read more about how to take care of wool here.
